Icehouse Salutation

It’s remarkable (and profoundly gratifying) to remember this icehouse salutation to Pam a year ago. Bundled up on the still undecked deck, in front of the still uninstalled French doors and windows, overlooking the still unlandscaped terrace (sans stone walls, stone stairways, and stone pavers), and daydreaming about the still unplumbed and notably absent hot tub, I paused for an enthusiastic “Hallooo!”

Thank you, Pam, for documenting this trifle and so, SO many critical progress photos throughout the icehouse rehabilitation that you managed with passion and perseverance. I suspect you share my satisfaction in looking at where this handsome outbuilding was one year ago. At the time it was beginning to feel like rehab ad infinitum… Would we *ever* finish what we started?!

Mudseason malaise —
plodding plot, midway doldrums -
yet hardy hello.

I well remember retreating into reflection, worrying over setbacks and slip-sliding deadlines. But I also remember reminding myself — and reminding Pam — that we’d get to the other side of this adventure. That soon, relatively speaking, we’d be celebrating an amazing new chapter in Rosslyn’s storied history. And indeed we did. And still are!
