Hostess with the Mostest

Yesterday a friend expressed confidence that his dog would notify him if an intruder entered his home. Our labrador retriever lets us know if someone arrives at our house, I explained, but whether family, friend, or intruder? It’s anybody’s guess. Carley welcomes one and all with enthusiasm. I laughed and suggested that an intruder brandishing a dog treat would be welcomed by Carley with a wagging tail and a big sloppy kiss. She loves *all* visitors. And then this photo popped up on my phone. Carley, the hostess with the mostest!

Hhhmmm… I may have just crossed a line.

After all, as long as I’ve known my beautiful bride, our family and friends have remarked upon Susan’s consummate hostessing. Welcoming, attentive, and generous beyond compare, Susan loves to receive guests. She’s ever eager to indulge and pamper and celebrate.

In short, there’s no contest. Susan is, always has been, and ever will be the quintessential hostess with the mostest.

But, I’m not usurping her rightful title. I’m sharing it. (Yes, I would argue, some superlatives can be shared.)

Carley has definitely learned this skill from her “mama”. So I present today’s post as evidence that dogs take on the attributes of their owners. Exhibit A: Susan. Exhibit B: Carley. One of these is just like the other!
