Gate & Aerial Atelier

Some days rays illuminate unfamiliar nooks and crannies rendering them familiar. Other days weather wobbles transform the familiar into the unfamiliar. When on both sorts of days we yield, make ourselves receptive, exchange judgment for wonder, then an aerial atelier opens up to us inviting us to experiment and play and create.

Aerial Atelier

Surly skies —
clear,
unclear —
sunlight souvenirs,
stormy interstices,
diurnal display
one-upping
aurora borealis.

Another August
attenuation and
aerial atelier,
sky sighing
skunkworks,
wind whispering
waterworks,
aestival vernissage.

Heavenly harmonica
or ferryboat horn
warning a swimmer
unawares,
a wayward
water-wanderer,
unsyncing,
unsinking.

All three of these photographs were taken this evening. The poem was drafted hours earlier on my ferry trip back to Essex after bringing my niece to the airport.

While riding and writing on the ferry, I found myself wishing for a rainbow over the lake. This rainbow. These rainbows. For there are actually two rainbows, one less apparent just above the more visible arc, painted across this aerial atelier.
