Boathouse Gangway Redux

What a difference a year makes! Actually, Rosslyn’s boathouse gangway redux spans a 2-year timeline, but as a sort of Pollyanna prayer, let’s celebrate the progress since one year ago.

The following excerpt and photograph appeared in my blog post one year ago today.

Rosslyn’s boathouse gangway reboot… is back on track — safe, sturdy, functionally and historically accurate — after the 2021 debacle… yet another “Phoenix rising from ashes” chapter of Rosslyn’s history. (Source: Boathouse Repairs 1: Gangway Reboot)

After a disappointing false start with the first contractor entrusted with this project, we changed horses mid race. Peter and Supi joined Team Rosslyn to salvage the gangway rebuild project. The photograph below, taken this morning, is testament to their tremendous accomplishment.

October sunshine illuminates the wet deck after a morning rain, railings and gates restored and indistinguishable from their first incarnation a decade and a half prior. Eureka! Susan and I offer our most heartfelt gratitude to Peter and Supi for our boathouse gangway redux. Thank you!

And this final photograph, taken a little over a week ago, memorializes another important benchmark. Glen trained his brush and focus on fine-tuning the finish paint for the boathouse gangway posts, railings, and gates. And since precision is his middle name, we asked him if he might also be able to repaint the west elevation of the boathouse as well. Done! In this photograph, you can see that he pulled this handsome portrait together with the passion and dexterity of an artist. Thank you, Glen.

So I sign off this evening with a grateful sigh of relief. Documentary photos, spending a year, there’s no overlooking the remarkable accomplishment of Peter, Supi, and Glenn. And, lest I fail to mention our perennial MVP, the “air traffic controller“ who makes it all happen, I conclude with familiar applause for Pam. None of this would happen without you! As always, thank you, thank you, thank you.
