Holiday Homecoming

What a wellspring of euphoria this evening! We returned to Rosslyn after briefly sojourning in Santa Fe, returned to a delicate frosting of snow underfoot, early dwindling natural light, holiday lights glowing in windows, 28° outside, toasty inside, the promise of savory stew and spicy cider wafting like a whimsical Christmas carol,… Rosslyn welcomed us back with a hardy, hearty holiday homecoming.

We are profoundly grateful for the opportunity to balance life in the high desert southwest with the auspicious Adirondack Coast. And we’re perennially astonished with the pull each of these disimilar environs exerts upon us. Each a homecoming. Each a revitalizing harbor that quickens our anticipation and excitement as return approaches. Each an enriching community that soothes and inspires.

Holiday homecomings are especially affecting. Picturesque and charming are too understated to accurately convey the cinematographic allure.

Meandering home,
our Christmas crystallizing,
waves break and bells toll.

Home Comings & Goings

I mentioned above the mysterious allure that Essex and Santa Fe exert upon us both.

“Are you a mountain person or a water person?” people ask. I answer that I am both. Sometimes I’m regarded as if that’s cheating. But it’s true.

I am both. We are both. Carley too!

For us, both homes induce poignant waves of emotion when we depart. And both gather us into a loving embrace upon arrival. Curious, right? And immensely comforting.
