Sidewalk Upgrade Begins

Hurrah! I’m super pleased to showcase the swift progress that the Town of Essex has made so far with the sidewalk upgrade.

A couple of weeks ago I met with Town of Essex Supervisor, Ken Hughes, and Town of Essex Highway Superintendent, Bradley French, to review plans for replacing the derelict (and potentially dangerous) section of sidewalk in front of Rosslyn.

Much needed sidewalk improvements are being made along Merchant’s Row, continuing our ongoing work effort to improve walkability in the downtown area for residents and visitors alike. We have two additional sites to improve as well, hoping the weather and temperatures can cooperate. We will do all we can to preserve any bluestone that we find for future use elsewhere.

In addition to Ken and Brad, we are grateful to Daniel McCray and Eugene Benway who have been making notable inroads removing old concrete and stone to make way for the sidewalk upgrade.

Pam, Tony, and Calvin have been coordinating efforts with the town crew, transporting, sorting, and storing any salvageable stone for repurposing. So hats off to the three of them as well. That’s agility, swinging effortlessly from installing paving stones in the icehouse courtyard to salvaging old sidewalk stones.

We’re excited to see this project underway after many years of broken and missing sidewalk. We look forward to safe, seamless access for our Essex neighbors and visitors to enjoy for years to come.

I’d like to wrap up this post by repeating my gratitude to all of our hard-working Town of Essex team. We are so grateful for all that you do!

I’ll share another sidewalk upgrade post soon!
